Life or Death Wednesday!

The origin of the word Wednesday is derived from two different gods. The Germanic god, Woden (Odin) – “Woden Day” and the Greek god of Mercury – “Day of Mercury”.

Roman culture believed that Woden, the god of war, poetry, knowledge, and wisdom, was also thought to be responsible for the creation of the world and of humankind. Mercury was the messenger, associated with travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery, and thieves. Mercury was also responsible for communicating the time of death and guiding souls to the underworld.

Even though both of these characters are fictional, the energy they created as historical figures around Wednesday is life and death.

We have the same ability.

Proverbs 18:21 says,

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Our words and our actions have the ability to breathe life or the breathe death into another human being. Sometimes silence is the most life we can offer when we examine our words and find little value or encouragement behind them.

Today, examine the words you say or write. Do the words you say behind closed doors or write on social media bring life or death? Do your actions lift someone’s spirits and bring them worth, or make them feel abandon, unrespectable, ignored or discarded?
