“For it is in giving that we receive.” Francis of Assisi
Life can surprise you. The very gift I meant to give away, I received back in abundance.
Last week, I spoke at our community senior center birthday luncheon. The topic was: Aging with Attitude. My goal (as always) was to inspire the guests to greatness. I wanted each one to know they were important. Their lives matter and I believe each one has a great contribution to give the world, no matter their age.
At the end of my talk, I gave a challenge to my listeners. I said: “Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself at the age of 47? OR what experience have you had that I need to know about.”
The answers were riveting. Along with many pages of advice to their 47 year-old selves, some wrote heart-touching letters to my teenage boys whom they had never met. One gentlemen told his story as a circus performer in the Wenatchee Youth Circus at the World Fair in Seattle in 1962!
Here is one of my favorite letters!
On that note, I am going to go floss my teeth and get ready to check off another hike on my summer list of places to explore (with a good pair of shoes of course!). What about you? What advice could you take? What advice would you give?
Your life is a gift to give back to the world. When you give your life away, you will be amazed at what happens next!
